Digitizing is the step that turns your logo or artwork into a file an embroidery machine can actually read — and if you've never had something embroidered before, it's usually the first question that trips people up. At Eagle Ridge Apparel in Meridian, we digitize for free on the first run, which surprises most customers who are used to shops charging $25–$75 per design. Here's what the process actually looks like for a Nampa-area customer from file to finished garment.
What Embroidery Digitizing Actually Is
When you hand over a PNG or PDF of your logo, an embroidery machine can't use it directly. A digitizer (either a person or software, ideally a person) converts that image into a stitch file — deciding where to start, which direction threads run, how to handle small text, and what stitch type works for each element. A poorly digitized file shows up as gaps, puckering, or letters that blur together. A well-digitized file looks clean at 4,000 stitches or 40,000.
Stitch count matters because it drives both thread cost and run time. A small left-chest logo — the kind you'd see on a polo for a Nampa HVAC crew or a dental office team — typically runs 6,000 to 10,000 stitches. A full back design with a detailed crest might hit 25,000 to 40,000. We'll tell you the stitch count before we run anything, so there are no surprises on the invoice.
What Digitizing Costs at Eagle Ridge (and What Others Charge)
A lot of embroidery shops in the Treasure Valley charge a one-time digitizing fee of $25–$75 per design, then keep your file in their system. Some online-only services charge per stitch or per revision. We skip the fee entirely on your first run — the digitizing is built into the order. After that, your file lives in our system and re-runs cost nothing on the digitizing side.
Pricing for the actual embroidery depends on the garment, the stitch count, and quantity. A single left-chest logo on a polo starts around $15–$18 for a one-off. Order 12 and the per-piece price drops meaningfully. We don't have minimums, so if you need one embroidered jacket for a retirement gift or three polos for a Nampa small-business owner, we'll run it. (Most shops quietly won't touch orders under 12 pieces, or they'll charge a small-run surcharge that erases any savings.)
A common order for us: 24 quarter-zips for a construction company, left-chest logo at around 8,500 stitches, two-week turnaround. That's a straightforward, no-drama job we run every week.

Eagle Ridge is in Meridian, about 15 minutes from downtown Nampa on I-84. Most customers either drop files off digitally (email or our online quote form) or stop by in person. Either way, here's a realistic timeline:
- File review and digitizing: 1–2 business days on a new design.
- Stitch-out proof: We'll send a photo of the first run for approval before we do the full order. Takes one business day, sometimes same-day.
- Production: 3–5 business days for most orders. Rush (24-hour) is available on in-stock items.
- Pickup or shipping: Nampa customers usually pick up in Meridian. We ship too, though most local orders don't bother.
If you're ordering for an event — say, the Snake River Stampede in Nampa or an early-season employee uniform rollout — plan for 10 business days from artwork approval to be safe. Tell us the hard deadline up front and we'll tell you honestly whether we can hit it without rushing.
What File Format Do You Need to Send?
Send us whatever you have. Honestly, a high-resolution PNG or a vector file (AI, EPS, SVG) is ideal, but we work with what customers actually have. If all you've got is a JPG from your website or a photo of a business card, we'll let you know what cleanup it needs before digitizing. We do not charge for minor artwork cleanup on standard logos.
Where it gets more involved: if your logo has a lot of fine detail, small text under 4pt, or gradients, the digitizer may recommend simplifying certain elements for embroidery. Thread doesn't blend like ink does, so photorealistic images usually need translation, not just conversion. We'll flag that before we start, not after.

Most woven and knit fabrics embroider well: polos, button-downs, jackets, beanies, hats, tote bags, work shirts. Thin, stretchy fabrics like moisture-wicking athletic shirts need a backing stabilizer to prevent puckering — doable, just something to note. We print on blanks from brands like Nike Dri-FIT, Under Armour, Carhartt, Port Authority, and OGIO, or you can bring your own garments if they're standard retail stock.
Hats are a slightly different animal. Structured caps (like a standard snapback or flexfit) embroider cleanly. Unstructured or very soft hats require extra digitizing care to keep text from shifting. Either way, we've run thousands of hat jobs and can walk you through the best option for what you're after.
If you're ordering branded gear for a Nampa business and want a way for employees to order their own sizes without you managing inventory, our team store setup might be worth a look — we've got 136 live stores running right now for Treasure Valley groups.

We're 4.9 stars on Google across 66 reviews, and the feedback we hear most is that people were tired of shops with high minimums, hidden setup fees, or turnaround times measured in weeks. We don't require a minimum order, we don't charge for digitizing on the first run, and we're straight about what's realistic on timing. If we can't hit your deadline without cutting corners, we'll say so.

How We Make This Stuff
Everything covered in this post is produced in our Meridian, Idaho shop at 2700 E Lanark St. Eagle Ridge Apparel is a family-run print shop serving the Treasure Valley since 2019 — we embroider, screen print, DTF, sublimate, laser-cut leather patches, laser-engrave drinkware, and UV-print promotional goods on equipment we operate ourselves. No outsourced decoration, no overseas fulfillment, no third-party middlemen.
Most custom apparel orders ship in 7–10 business days from approved mockup. Rush production in 3–5 business days is available on most decoration methods; embroidered hats are the tightest constraint. We hold no minimums on any decoration type — order one piece or one thousand — though pricing scales aggressively over 50, 100, and 250-piece tiers. Free digital mockups before production starts. We don't begin a run until you sign off on what it'll look like.
Two ways to order: design it yourself online in our designer tool (any quantity, any decoration method), or request a custom quote and we'll send back pricing within one business day. Talk to a real person — email info@eagleridgeapparel.com or send us a message, and most inquiries get a response within two hours during the business day.
