If you're a kindergarten teacher chaperoning 24 kids through the zoo, you understand why field trip shirts exist. They're not for memories or spirit — they're for visibility. Bright neon green, easy to spot from across an exhibit, kids see the shirt and know they're with their group. Here's how Treasure Valley elementary schools order them and what they actually cost.
Why field trip shirts aren't optional
Field trip safety is genuinely scary. You're moving 20–30 elementary kids through a venue with thousands of visitors. They wander. They get distracted by exhibits. They lose track of the chaperone. Bright field trip shirts cut the search time when a kid drifts.
We've heard from teachers: 'I spotted the bright orange shirt across the aquarium and knew that was one of our kids. Walked over, brought her back to the group. Without that shirt I'd have spent 10 minutes panicking.'
The design specs that work
- Color: neon orange, neon yellow, or bright lime green. These are the easiest colors to spot in crowds. Avoid red (looks like blood in panic moments) and blue (too common).
- Print: school name on the front in BIG letters (8+ inches wide). The school name on the front identifies the kid's affiliation to anyone who finds them.
- Back: '(Grade) — Field Trip' on the back in large text. Helps chaperones quickly identify which grade a kid belongs to.
- Chaperone differentiation: chaperones get a DIFFERENT color (often black or navy) so kids can identify the adult to ask for help.
Pricing for typical field trip orders
- 30 shirts (single class): $11–$15 per shirt with screen print. Total: $330–$450.
- 100 shirts (full grade level): $9–$12 per shirt. Total: $900–$1,200.
- 200 shirts (recurring use for multiple trips): $8–$10 per shirt. Total: $1,600–$2,000.
Most schools that do regular field trips order in the 100–200 piece range and reuse the shirts across the year. Kindergarten field trip in September, library field trip in November, zoo trip in April — all the same shirts.
Toddler-through-adult sizing in one order
Field trip orders are mixed-size by definition. Kindergarteners are YXS or YS, fourth graders are YL, chaperones are adult sizing. We handle the full range on the same order. Toddler 2T (if you include pre-K) through Adult 3XL.
No setup charges for the size mix. Send us your roster with each kid's size and we produce accordingly.
Reordering for new students mid-year
New student transfers in October? We can produce a single replacement shirt in 5–7 business days. We save your design file so there's no setup re-run. Just the per-piece cost of the new shirt.
Production timing
Field trips are usually scheduled 3–8 weeks ahead. Order shirts 4 weeks before the trip date for safety. Rush production 5–7 business days available if needed but try not to need it.

How We Make This Stuff
Everything covered in this post is produced in our Meridian, Idaho shop at 2700 E Lanark St. Eagle Ridge Apparel is a family-run print shop serving the Treasure Valley since 2019 — we embroider, screen print, DTF, sublimate, laser-cut leather patches, laser-engrave drinkware, and UV-print promotional goods on equipment we operate ourselves. No outsourced decoration, no overseas fulfillment, no third-party middlemen.
Most custom apparel orders ship in 7–10 business days from approved mockup. Rush production in 3–5 business days is available on most decoration methods; embroidered hats are the tightest constraint. We hold no minimums on any decoration type — order one piece or one thousand — though pricing scales aggressively over 50, 100, and 250-piece tiers. Free digital mockups before production starts. We don't begin a run until you sign off on what it'll look like.
