How we outfitted a growing Treasure Valley landscaping crew with embroidered work shirts, hats, and high-vis gear that survives the season.
Radix Lawn & Pest is a residential lawn-care and pest-control company serving Meridian, Boise, and Eagle. Started as a single-truck owner-operated outfit, grew to a 6-truck crew in three seasons. The owner came to us because their guys looked like they were wearing whatever was clean — and homeowners couldn't tell who was approaching the door.
We sat down with the owner and walked through the crew's actual workday. Most days started cool and got hot. Some jobs required hi-vis (along roads); most didn't. The crew was washing uniforms at home, not industrial-laundering them. Cotton shrank wrong; pure poly itched after eight hours in the sun. We landed on a Carhartt cotton-poly blend short-sleeve work shirt for spring/fall, a moisture-wicking athletic poly tee for summer, and a Class 2 hi-vis safety vest layered over either one when traffic exposure was a factor.
Embroidery, not screen print. The Radix logo lives over the left chest, the crew member's first name lives over the right chest, and the website URL is tucked discreetly on the right sleeve. We dialed in stitch density so the logo holds detail through a season of homeowner-washing without going fuzzy.
Headwear was the easy win. Richardson 112 trucker hats with a leather patch of the Radix logo became the most-worn item of the kit. Crew started wearing them off-clock too. Word-of-mouth marketing for the company on top of being functional sun-protection.
